ShotPut Studio Adds Apple ProRes RAW™ Support and Improved Transcoding Performance

Media management does not stop once files are safely copied. For many teams, transcoding is a critical next step, whether it is generating proxies for editorial, reviewing files for post, or standardized deliverables. In ShotPut Studio 2.4, we have focused heavily on this stage of the pipeline, delivering certified Apple ProRes RAW™ support alongside a major rewrite of the transcode engine.

The result is a release that significantly reduces waiting time, improves flexibility, and gives users more control over how their media is prepared for the next phase of production.

ShotPut Studio Adds Apple ProRes RAW Decoding

ShotPut Studio 2.4 introduces certified ProRes RAW support, expanding the range of formats that can be handled directly within Studio workflows.

When ProRes RAW files are added to the queue, ShotPut Studio will automatically transcode them as expected. In addition, Studio now exposes expanded video controls specifically for ProRes RAW media, giving users more flexibility during the transcode process.

More Control, Without Leaving the Workflow

When previewing a ProRes RAW file, ShotPut Studio 2.4 provides access to key parameters including but not limited to:

  • ISO
  • Exposure Bias
  • Color Temperature
  • RAW to Log

Adjustments are reflected immediately in the preview frame, allowing users to dial in settings before starting a job. This makes it easier to generate proxies or deliverables that are better suited for editorial, review, or client handoff, without requiring a separate application or additional processing step.

With official Apple® certification, users can trust that ProRes RAW decoding in ShotPut Studio is supported, color accurate, and aligned with Apple’s specifications.

A Major Rewrite of the Transcode Engine

In addition to support for ProRes RAW, ShotPut Studio’s transcode engine has been substantially reworked from the ground up. This is not a minor optimization pass but a new engine designed to better utilize system resources, handle concurrency more efficiently, and reduce bottlenecks that previously slowed down batch jobs.

Benchmark tests indicate this new engine consistently delivered much faster transcode times compared to the previous production version of ShotPut Studio, with some datasets completing multiple times faster depending on format and settings.

Why This Matters on Set and in Post

Faster transcodes directly affect how quickly teams can move on to the next task. Not only this, but when performing transcodes on-prem, productions can reduce costs by eliminating the need to generate these in the cloud.

For on-set teams, this means:

  • Quicker turnaround on proxy generation for editorial
  • Less time waiting on transcodes before handing off drives
  • More confidence running multiple tasks in parallel without slowing the system down

For post teams, it means:

  • Faster ingest and prep of incoming media
  • Reduced machine time spent on routine transcode jobs
  • More predictable delivery timelines, even with large or mixed datasets

By removing friction at this stage, ShotPut Studio 2.4 helps keep the entire pipeline moving.

ShotPut Studio 2.4: Built for Real-World Pipelines

ShotPut Studio 2.4 is about removing friction where it matters most. The rewritten transcode engine dramatically reduces processing time, while ProRes RAW decoding adds flexibility for teams working with modern camera formats.

Together, these improvements make Studio a faster, more capable tool for handling media from ingest through delivery, without forcing users to compromise between speed and control.
